All About Andy - tagged with american-apparel http://andrewbowness.com/feed en-us http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss Sweetcron info@hideyourarms.com Gotham’s Youth by Glennz http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1744 New Zealand’s finest funny tee designer (if you think I’m wrong, prove it), Glenn Jones, is at it again with this fun design based upon the bat signal. Unless I’ve forgotten something, the Dark Knight was my favourite movie of the year (yes, even beating Wall-E), and I’ve told my family that if I don’t find the Blu-Ray under the Christmas tree that I’m definitely going to have a childish tantrum, so if there’s no posts in the New Year it’s probably because I’m still sulking… or possibly just really hungover. a.mar.illo & siXsiXsiX are making A Better Tomorrow http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1732 Andre from A Better Tomorrow got in touch to let me know about a couple of new tees that won their design competition. The one in the top picture of this post is called ‘Night of the Dead’ (way to keep it festive ABT!) and is firmly planted in the burgeoning niche of ’80s puke horror’, a genre that I must thank Alex from Dance Party Massacre for coining, though he’ll get pretty pissed if you lump his tees in with them. The tee marks the first time that ABT have used waterbased ink on their tees, so this will probably be one of their softest tees yet. The lower tee is by that most excellent stalwart of tee design competitions, Sven Palmowski, or a.mar.illo if you want to get all ‘aka’ about this. The tee is a pretty clever take on 50s B-Movies, except for instead of thinly-guised metaphors about Communists invading the US, he’s tackling the much more dangerous, and surely much more real, threat of giant fruits laying waste to the Earth. Close ups in the gallery.

Miss Do-Gooder is now doing battle with illiteracy! [Charitees] http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1705 You all know that I’m a bit of a sucker for a company that are trying to do their bit for charity whilst also trying to make you look good, and Miss Do-Gooder most certainly do that. Every time someone buys the tee above, $2.50 will go to the First Book charity, which is enough to give a disadvantaged child a book, which will help them to learn to read, and then eventually one day they’ll start reading HYA, so basicially everyone wins, especially the kids… and me. Lost Dimension by cuypi for LaFraise http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1695 I seriously have no clue what’s going on with this tee from LaFraise, but I really like it. The character is cute, and it sits really well on the tee, a good case of a tee design, rather than an illustration that has been put on a tee as an afterthought. Costiness=€19 Buy it at LaFraise

A Better Tomorrow do hoodies now! http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1649 A Better Tomorrow have taken some of their best designs and put them onto hoodies. I’m not sure if this means that they’re going to start releasing new designs as hoodies at the same time as they release the tees, maybe it will be a Threadless type deal where only selected designs get turned into hoodies. Pretty well priced at €32 each as well.

Go Ape Are Walken On Sunshine http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1637 I would have thought that “Walken in a Winter Wonderland” would have been a bit more seasonal, but I guess that with a pun this good it doesn’t really matter whether it’s sunshine, snow, or even broken glass, it’s still going to be funny. A t-shirt that is also a pillow case, finally! http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1567 I can’t see this catching on in the mainstream, like a lot of Out Of Office Collective’s strange but wonderful products, but as a concept it’s very cool, and when writing about t-shirts has turned me into a millionaire I’m definitely going to buy one, possibly two. Basically, that little blue flap at the bottom of the tee makes sure that not only is this a normal t-shirt (with a flap at the bottom) but also a functioning pillow case. I can’t really imagine a situation in which you would need an emergency pillow case, but dammit I admire OOO for filling what may well be a void in the apparel/sleeping market.

Rawr! and Grrr! by Foe Paws [Review] http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1475 Last time that Foe Paws were featured on Hide Your Arms was with their nerd-tastic geek crest design (excluding when I announced these two designs), so I guess that its fair to say that they’ve taken a slight turn in terms of the direction of their look. I look at these two designs and I can think of only one word: badass. Right?

When I first saw these tees, I didn’t really like the style that much. They reminded me of those crappy, cheap, photo-style shirts that middle-aged people who like cats too much wear, you know what I mean? After I gave them a proper look though, I started to appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into these two designs, and I bet that they’d work really well paired up with a blazer or something fairly muted. The colourways are paired up nicely too.

I know what you’re thinking, there is no way in hell that you can print this design well. Prepare to be surprised, because it’s actually pretty impressive, I assume it uses DTG (direct to garment) printing, but I would be very happy to be proved wrong by someone more in the know than I am. The blending of the colours, especially on the wolf shirt, really is quite something to behold (yes, behold!). The t-shirt itself.is American Apparel stock, so you know what you’re getting there, and the printed tag on the inside is a nice touch as well. Costiness=$18 Buy them both at Foe Paws

Bar Trekkin’ by Go Ape Shirts [Review] http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1329 Much like my last review, you can’t actually buy this one either (sorry, again), but this time it isn’t because the tee being limited edition, it’s because Go Ape Shirts got a friendly letter from CBS, who own the copyright to Star Trek, asking them to stop selling the tee. To me, this is quite clearly a parody, and there are lots of shirts out there for sale that are far more blatantly ripping the intellectual property of Star Trek, but Goliath tends to beat David in these situations, which is why I ended up receiving one of these tees. Even if you can’t buy this tee, it does serve as a good reminder that Go Ape consistently release some fantastic designs and have the print quality to do them justice. Go Ape Shirts

Bernos’ Fall Lineup http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1270 I don’t know what it is about Bernos, but their designs leave me feeling really ‘refreshed’. You’re probably thinking “Andy, what the hell are you talking about?” But luckily, I don’t need to explain myself because I’ve already said I don’t know what it is. Also, I love the idea that absolutely anyone can wear a tee that says “Made in Africa.” Check out the gallery for an argyle tee in a rasta colourway that I think is pretty cool. Bernos

Say Hello To Torso Clothing http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1262 Just so we’re clear, this is Torso Clothing, not Torso, its hardly surprising that two companies have sprung up with similar names, though them both being based in Australia does confuse things a bit. Go Ape Shirts are Battleready… will not battle with CBS http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1244 Here’s the latest news from Go Ape Shirts: It’s that time again! “Battleready” by the very talented Derek M Ballard is now up for sale. It is a jumbo print and our first on American Apparel’s organic and sustainable shirts. In more unfortunate news, a lot of you have noticed that the “Bar Trekkin’” shirt suddenly went missing. This shirt has been challenged by CBS, owners of the Star Trek franchise. While we believe that the design is a parody protected by law, we are complying with their demand. Lastly, it is holiday shopping season again already! I will do my best to get to the post office once every three business days at the longest. When you place an order, if you received a confirmation email from PayPal, I have received your order. Sorry if this is not clear. Personally, I think that the Bar Trekkin’ tee was well within the grounds of parody, but I can understand why GAS can’t fight it. Battleready looks pretty cool too, eh guys? Go Ape Shirts

Cap’n Crunk by Cutthroat Clothing http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1229 I’m pretty sure I’d look like a bit of a tool if I wore this since I don’t think anyone would believe I like crunk, but it is still a damn fine illustration, and a damn fine tee, so much so that it was Emptees tee of the day yesterday. It should be noted that this tee is on pre-order sale, hopefully shipping in early-ish December, and that you can get a discount with the code cereal, but I don’t know what or how much that discount is. Geoskullz by Viva Ortegacy http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1136 I’m not actually all that in love with the design as an illustration, but I think that something simple like this skull design works really, really well as a t-shirt, y’know? Got Ya Nose! by A Better Tomorrow http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1100 I guess robots are like buses, by which I don’t mean that they’re both made of metal, I’m referring to the old adage that you wait ages for one and then two turn up.
