All About Andy - tagged with music http://andrewbowness.com/feed en-us http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss Sweetcron info@hideyourarms.com M.I.A: All she wants to do is drop a line on Karmaloop and take your mon-ey http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1598 I know, I know, that title is ridiculously long, but come on, as far as lines go, that’s about as clever as I can get. I’m a big, big fan of M.I.A, by which I of course mean I own Kala and haven’t listened to anything else by her, so I thought I’d post this line of clothes even if I don’t think its all that great. Here’s the blurbery: Featuring bomber jackets, leggings and bodysuits, the debut collection is clearly designed by none other than M.I.A featuring her signature bold colors and graphic prints. This collection is limited edition and can be seen in her new video “Real Pirates of the Caribbean.” The video features a toe-headed Okley Leslie, who models the pieces from the collection that can be found on the singer’s website and purchased from Karmaloop. The whole range can be found here at Karmaloop.

What Rocks? The Number 5! [Competitions http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1488 I almost forgot to mention this, but the winner of the recent ‘What Rocks‘ competition is my fellow tee blogger Rude Retro, who was the the person picked by the random number generator at Random.org. Enjoy your $25 gift certificate! Thanks once again to Split Reason for so generously continuing to sponsor contests on HYA, and also thanks to everyone for taking part, I’ve been checking out a few of the band recommendations and you know what? You guys have pretty good taste!

Look at DEM records at Threadless http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1400 That title isn’t actually the name of the design, its a little bit more clever than that, can anyone work it out? I got a quick, and rather excited, note from Dale Edwin Murray letting my know about his first ever win at Threadless. Considering that there’s a site-wide sale on at the moment this might be a good time to pick it up if you’re a fan. Well done Dale! Costiness=$35 ($15 for the tee version) Buy it at Threadless

DIY Guitar Hero by Ruby Red at RedBubble http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1384 This is pretty clever, its all the component parts of a Les Paul laid out on a tee. I’ve got an order from RedBubble that should be making its way to me fairly soon, so I’ll be able to give you a full report on the quality to be expected from them. What rocks? Tell me and win a $25 Gift Certificate from Split Reason http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1344 Split Reason, the great store for gamers and geeks, has teamed up with Hide Your Arms to give one lucky reader a $25 gift certificate. As usual, it is spectacularly, almost insultingly easy to get yourself in with a chance of winning the prize. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me who your favourite band is or a song you like, or maybe a band that you think I might like, basically, tell me what rocks! I’m going to keep the competition open until midnight (GMT) this Friday, November 28th, and the winner will be announced on Monday. For those of you that are wondering the band in the picture are my good friends Decorate in Flames (MySpace link), who do rock.

It should be noted that this tee is on pre-order sale, hopefully shipping in early-ish December, and that you can get a discount with the code cereal, but I don’t know what or how much that discount is. Diplo on Threadless Tee-V [Video] http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/1094 Diplo Spins Through Threadless!! from Threadless.com on Vimeo. To be completely honest, as far as interviews go this one doesn’t really impress me, but I am a fan of Diplo’s work (and its good to hear that he has a cheesesteak recommendation in Philly that isn’t Pat’s or Geno’s) and I think its really cool that Threadless make video’s where they don’t mention their own clothing at all. xok are AOK in my books (and on sale too) http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/973 It’s always nice to first hear about a brand when they’ve got their entire catalogue on sale, as xok clothing do, it feels as if you’re getting a kind of introductory bonus. Here’s xok’s blurb: xok Clothing is made by music fans, for music fans. Music is our passion. After years of taking from the music scene, we wanted to give something back. That’s why we formed xok Clothing. We want to provide our friends and friends-to-be with clothing that represents who they are and where they came from, at affordable prices. So, there you go. The tees and hoodies are much like birds, because they go “cheap, cheap, cheap” as you can pick up a shirt for $5 to $10 and a hoodie for $20 to $25. xok clothing

Megan Fox probably does totally like Motley Crue http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/713 Wondering why there are so many celebrity posts on HYA today? Look here for an explanation. I don’t know what it is about Megan Fox (sidebar: how ridiculously good-looking is she?), but I’m inclined to believe that she actually does like Motley Crue, whereas I don’t think that Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton are big fans of the Rolling Stones. It’s porbably because of her hair. All girls with black hair like Motely Crue, right?

Jessica Simpson totally likes the Rolling Stones http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/706 Wondering why there are so many celebrity posts on HYA today? Look here for an explanation. Anyone have any idea why so many celebrities wear Rolling Stones t-shirts? Sure, they’re a cool band n’all, but you’d have thought that since most young people just know them as ‘those old men who’re inexplicably not dead yet and sometimes play music’ that Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton might associate themselves with a newer band. Paris Hilton totally likes the Rolling Stones http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/704 Yeah… sure she does. Quite a cool take on the classic Rolling Stones logo though, well done to her stylist for picking it out. Nice belt too. And sunglasses. And jacket.

Dadawan & Mad Turnip become NUKOD, release cool tees http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/543 I forgot to mention this when it happened, but a little while back Dadawan (who I’ve mentioned quite a lot), and Mad Turnip (who I haven’t, but they share a retail shop in Paris) have joined forces and rebranded themselves as NUKOD, and are now operating out of a Big Cartel-powered webstore, which is a bit more browsing friendly then the old Dadawan store. I can’t be entirely sure, but I think that they are the ones who have released the tees above, that I think are based upon photos of musicians (Iggy Pop, PJ Harvey, Stupefilp and my band of this year and last, Justice) by a French photographer that goes by the name of Natydred. Find the tees at Nukod. Pour homme et pour femme.

I guess that tees like that are like normal pop culture reference tees on steroids. This particular tee features “31 classic rock, punk and post-punk celebrities whose stars burnt brightest from 1972-1982. Tougher than the last… we believe you will never figure them all.” Chop Shop Store

The Daily Loop from KarmaloopTV http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/405 Karmaloop have started producing a daily show in which they discuss what’s new in the world of streetwear. Yesterday’s issue covered the Marc Ecko Star War collection, some limited edition sneakers, TI’s new album, and a few small/funny stories that have been in the news recently, such as that guy that punched a shark in the face to save his dog. The ‘Daily Loop’ is professionally produced, well hosted, and pretty funny to boot, so I may well be making the Daily Loop a daily stop off on my web travels. KarmaloopTV

Rigo… es amor [Flickr Finds] http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/403 T-shirts lead to me researching a lot of odd things on the internet, take this tee for example, I had no idea who Rigo was, so after a quick hunt around I’ve found out that Rigo is “considered a musical pioneer who started fusing electric guitars, synthesizers and rock melody with traditional Mexican music.” You truly do learn something new every day, and most of the time it isn’t much use to you. The tee isn’t exactly the best I’ve ever featured on HYA, but I really like the style that the photo was taken, and hopefully that little compliment will mean that the photographer won’t mind me highlighting their photo. Johnny Drama demands Freedom or Death! http://andrewbowness.com/items/view/335 I was watching Entourage last night (we’re only a week behind here in the UK, which unusually close for us) and I spotted Viking Quest’s very own Johnny Drama wearing a tee that I just knew would be on the internet somewhere… … and I was right! The design is by Worn Free, who recreate designs that were famously worn by musical heroes from ‘back in the day’ such as such as Kurt Cobain, Debbie Harry (who I once saw stood on the street in Amsterdam - true story) and this design, which was worn by Lester Bangs, a man I first encountered when he was played by Philip Seymour Hoffman in my favourite movie of all time, Almost Famous, who was in Mission Impossible 3 with Tom Cruise, who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon. It ain’t a cheap tee, but if you want to look like Johnny Drama then I’m pretty sure you’ve got bigger things to worry about than the amount a t-shirt costs. Costiness=$40 Buy it here @ Worn Free Oh, and do you like my TV? 52 glorious inches! If only ITV broadcast entourage in HD.
